Moorpark is home to a Unified School District, Moorpark High School (established 1919), and Moorpark College, institutions that anchor community life and serve multiple generations of families.
Moorpark High School was founded in 1919 as the Moorpark Memorial Union High School, with the word Memorial honoring servicemen who fell in World War I. Today it serves about 1,821 students in grades 9–12 and is known for its Academic Decathlon team, which has won the national championship four times, most recently in 2009. The school is part of the Moorpark Unified School District, which operates multiple schools serving the community.
Moorpark College, established on September 11, 1967, has grown into a significant regional institution with approximately 13,756 students. The college's 150-acre campus includes the Charles Temple Observatory, dedicated in 1987 as the only public observatory in Ventura County. The college also operates the Exotic Animal Training and Management program, established in 1973, and maintains athletic facilities including the Paul Griffin Jr. Stadium completed in 1985. These institutions are not just places of learning but gathering points for community identity and pride.
